Discovery Bay Learning Academy offers educational opportunities year-round for students of all ages. Enrollment for our programs may have specific requirements.

DISCOVERY BAY LEARNING ACADEMY LICENSED PROGRAMS

For preschool and Pre-K our school year runs from September to June and follows the Lake Washington School District calendar for school closures. Class is held five days per week in order to provide consistency and deliver a continuous curriculum. Your child will gain the most benefit by completing the entire year.

PRE-KINDERGARTEN (3 YEARS OLD)

1:7/1:10 Teacher to student ratio. Maximum group size of 14.

Session 1: 9:00am-3:00pm
Session 2: 9:00am-5:00pm (3:00pm-5:00pm childcare)

The Pre-Kindergarten class accepts fully potty-trained children who turn 3 years old on/before Aug 31, prior to the starting school year in September. Placement in the program is based on developmental readiness as well as age. Required readiness skills include:

  • Children must be potty-trained
  • Able to follow simple 2-3 step directions
  • Able to attend to a learning activity for up to 20 minutes
  • Able to separate from parents without experiencing a high level of distress

The Pre-K classroom follows a curriculum based on activities that incorporate student-centered instruction, developmentally appropriate practices, and culturally responsive teaching. Our program provides a blend of play-based activities and academic instruction, following a scope and sequence of skill and conceptual development across content areas. Students in our program will work toward becoming well-rounded students.

KINDERGARTEN PREP (AGES 4-5)

1:10 teacher to student ratio. Maximum group size of 20.

Session 1: 9:00am-3:00pm
Session 2: 9:00am-5:00pm (3:00pm-5:00pm childcare)

Kindergarten Prep accepts fully potty-trained children who turn 4 years old on/before Aug 31, prior to the starting school year in September. Placement in the program is based on developmental readiness as well as age. Required readiness skills include:

  • Able to follow simple 2-3 step directions
  • Able to attend to a learning activity for up to 30 minutes
  • Able to separate from parents without experiencing a high level of distress

The KPrep program follows the nationally acclaimed curriculum for four-year-old children: Focus on KPREP. Our program provides a blend of play-based activities and academic instruction, following a scope and sequence of skill and conceptual development across content areas. Students in our program will work toward becoming well-rounded students through

  • Play-centered learning.
  • Developing routines and become comfortable with classroom structures.
  • Building positive relationships with other children and teachers.
  • Building social, emotional, critical thinking, math and reading skills; and
  • Working independently and in groups to explore new ideas, question concepts and share their feelings.
